This Sabbat is often called the First Harvest. It is a time when the fruits of the Earth begin to come into their fullness. It is usually appropriate to have any time of grains, breads, or sheaves as decoration for the altar and for the simple feast. It is a time to contemplate the sacricifes in life that allow for new and better things in life. It is often from times of trouble and loss that we find a strength within to overcome. This is what Lammas teaches us. It is the time when Summer is waning down towards the coldness of Winter and death to only be reborn again in new life come Spring again. The Wiccan Sabbats teach us a great deal about life if you look for it.
Your assignment is to research Lammas and to write some of the interesting things you find about it. Also, I would like for you to give me your thoughts on what the holiday means to you. What do you learn about life from it personally? You are to celebrate this Wiccan holiday in some way on August 1 for those in the Northern Hemisphere and February 2 for those in the Southern Hemisphere. It can be very simple as a nature walk or a ritual of some type. Just make a point to connect with the Deities on this day. You will be amazed at the insight you may receive from doing so. I would like to hear about your experiences as well. Enjoy.
Bright Blessings,
Arianna
You can find a sample ritual on My Personal Wicca Site. Study my ritual but I also want you to study many other sources. You should never take one point of view to follow. Find what's right for you. Enjoy your assignments.
