Lesson # 27e: Candles
Candles are probably the most used item in ritual and magick. They are generally the easiest to obtain and create that special magickal atmosphere that gets you in the mindset for magick and ritual. Candles do more than create a mood though. Each color and scent has its own magickal property. For example, white is often used for the Goddess, to cleanse, and to protect. Many spells call for a specific colored candle. Adding a matching scent that coordinates with the color's properties makes the magick even stronger. Seeing and smelling a candle helps you focus on your task. When it comes to scents, the same properties apply as they do to incense. For example if you have a cinnamon scented candle, it is the same property as cinnamon incense or oil. Cinnamon is usually associated with fire spells, passion spells, and strength. Combine that with a red color which also has the same properties and you have a great candle for your spells or rituals. There is a lot of information available to you about each color and scent of candles and its use. You will find lots of internet sources and several books. Scott Cunningham has a book specifically about candle magick that should be easy to use and understand. Use this lesson to research the correspondences of candle colors and scents. Create a short list of types you would like to use in your own personal practice. Here are some sites to get you started.

Your Assignment
I want you to research about candles either online or through books. I do suggest that you buy a good book if possible for reference. Find your select list of candle scents and colors for magickal purposes that is easy for you to obtain and fits your needs. Post your list to the group and maybe a little about why you chose them.
